Location is great, on the beach and within the old town. Lovely historic building, nicely restored. Breakfast buffet includes eggs/omelette to order. Laundry returned promptly.

Tembo House Hotel and Apartments offers more than just a place to stay—it delivers a deeply memorable Zanzibar experience steeped in charm, comfort, and genuine hospitality. Nestled in the heart of Stone Town, the hotel exudes historic elegance with its traditional architecture and views overlooking the Indian Ocean, yet it’s the warm, attentive service that truly sets it apart. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with heartfelt smiles and a staff ready to make my stay as comfortable as possible. They went above and beyond in every interaction. One standout moment was a thoughtful recommendation from a team member to try Ugali, a staple of East African cuisine. It was my first time tasting it, and I was pleasantly surprised by its comforting simplicity and richness—it quickly became a highlight of my stay. The in-house restaurant serves a range of flavorful dishes that reflect the region’s culinary diversity, and meals can be enjoyed in a relaxed setting that makes you feel right at home. The only minor hiccup was the unavailability of Coke Zero, which I learned was due to supplier issues—certainly understandable and handled transparently by the staff. Despite that small inconvenience, my experience at Tembo House was overwhelmingly positive. The atmosphere, service, and cultural touches make it not just a hotel, but a place that lingers in your memory long after you’ve checked out. I can’t wait to return and would wholeheartedly recommend it to travelers seeking authenticity and comfort in the heart of Zanzibar.
