Very reasonably priced accommodation for those on a budget wishing to access all that the Atherton tableland has to offer. The double room was adequate to our needs, with a powerboard and a lamp, and a pedestal fan for comfort. We didn't really use the shared areas much this trip but they were lovely and well-equipped. Herb garden and even a bowl of citrus fruit were available to help ourselves if we wished. Fresh rain water on tap in the garden was a treat to fill our water bottles. Toilets and showers were fine, just take care if going up and down stairs for them at night - there is plenty of lighting to help. Excellent restaurant and cafe options nearby. We appreciated the recommendations offered by the friendly and knowledgeable hosts.

On the Wallaby Backpackers in Yungaburra offers a warm, welcoming vibe with cozy, comfortable spaces. The well-resourced kitchen makes cooking a breeze, while the peaceful backyard—with inviting seating and fruit trees—adds a special touch. It's within easy walking distance to the pub and cafes, and a gentle hike to the start of the river track where you can see platypus in the creek. A perfect place to relax, connect, and enjoy the charm of the Atherton Tablelands.

This was the first time since I came to Australia that I truly felt a sense of home and peace. I’ve been away for a while and only now have I found the courage to write this, because every time I think about it, I get teary. It was just so wonderful. The town itself is breathtakingly beautiful, and On The Waklaby is especially lovely. The charming vintage furniture is well cared for, and the garden is stunning — thoughtfully arranged with many tables and chairs. Whether you’re sitting inside or out in the yard, it’s always comfortable. When the wind blows, you’ll hear the soothing rustle of leaves and the soft, calming sound of wind chimes.There are all kinds of little birds who come to visit. On rainy days, you’ll hear the peaceful patter of raindrops in different rhythms. On clear nights, the stars are incredibly vivid. The bed was so comfortable — I finally slept deeply and peacefully. Bella felt like a friend I’d known for ten years. She quietly took care of her own things while always thinking of me too. When she was done, we’d relax by the fireplace, eat together, share drinks, play Switch, go for walks, and search for platypuses and cute little birds. She’s like a sapphire — beautiful, radiant, and full of life. Veronica was like an older sister — strong and kind. While I was staying, a tour group arrived and Veronica cooked dinner for everyone. The steak and salad were amazing — I’m not sure if she does that often, but if you’re staying here, please ask! You might get lucky. It was absolutely delicious. The garden was already beautiful, and she’s still working hard to make it even better. This place truly is something special. Even walking down the street, people would stop and say, “Oh, are you staying On the Wallaby？ Everyone loves that place. You’re so lucky to have found it.” If you’re reading this — don’t hesitate.
