It is an outstanding building with so much history. The gardens were a fantastic addition, especially to sit in and enjoy a coffee from the in-house cafe. Perfect for pre-grad photos, too. There is a museum explaining about the building and its founder, history, etc., and a hidden gem on the second floor - the chapel. It is beautiful and a place of quiet prayer and peace. The rooms we booked were clean and spacious - the family room had the addition of the air con, which was ideal. Breakfast was continental, but you can pay for a cooked breakfast, if desired. Ideal location from York train station (short walking distance away). Entrance to York city centre is through Micklegate, and roughly 10-20 mins walk (depending on mobilty) to minister and shambles, etc., but good bus, and taxi services locally. Overall, I was impressed, and as our stay was for a special occasion (graduation), it was perfect. Will definitely return.

Wonderfully calm and quiet guest house with delightful garden and dining room. Ideal location 10 minutes from the station. Good range of places for dinner nearby. Interesting exhibition about the history of the property.

The location was ideal for my requirements. The building is unusual, which was a source of intrigue, to me at least. The receptionist was very helpful and informative when I arrived. The breakfast was good. I must have missed this when I booked, but the only breakfast option available to me appeared to be continental. Whilst this was good, something cooked would have been better. This was likely described in the detail when I booked, so I'm not complaining. I'll pay more attention next time as I'll certainly be back again.
