It's a beautiful old house with gardens, full of character and well maintained. The bedrooms are very confortable and well furnished and the food excellent. Service is faultless and staff really go out of their way to help and make you feel at home. The rates are very reasonable for York and competetive with much less grand places in York. The location is a quick Uber ride from he city (£6) and nestled in relaxing countryside. Would definitely recommend.

The whole concept. Although the internet is available everywhere, it is requested that you refrain from using laptops, phones etc in the restaurant, at breakfast & other shared areas so that you can enjoy the experience and not compromise others' relaxation. I'm usually glued to my phone but seriously, they are right and it did enable me to enjoy the wonderful ambience. Staff were professional, helpful and friendly. Room was very comfortable.

It’s beautiful gardens, very comfortable public rooms and bedrooms, and small spa . If you are looking for a period hotel / retreat in tranquil surroundings with attentive staff and peace and quiet then this is the place for you.
