The Red House is a beautiful old family home converted into a boutique hotel near the centre of VN de Foz Coa. The room we had (room 3) was truly splendid and well worth the extra 10 euros. Tourist information, next door but one, were very helpful. We were driving the whole length of the Douro/Duero river and this was our first stop from Porto. The N222 is an experience in itself, being one of those roads much loved by touring motorcyclists. It's just over 200km plus navigation errors (!) from Porto, so we were glad to check in here. Special mention for Alexandria who was a wonderful host. Breakfast was the best we had anywhere on this trip. There is a world class museum and archaeological site at Foz Coa, but we didn't have time to visit them. Had I known I would have extended our stay to 2 nights to take those in. Next time maybe.

Splendid house, antique furniture but that fits perfectly in this ambient. Very friendly host, good breakfast (self service style). Good bed. If you come by train from Pocinho: easily to reach with taxi (10 eur).
