Irene, has a lovely place very close to the pineta and the sea side - albeit by bike, from the delighful Bicycle hire place _ Mario and Lorenzo a short walk to the flat - it was a nice walk if you fancy getting a bit fit and that was why I was there in case you can't cycle. The free beach is actually quite close to the flat and if you find Pesce Balocco Beach restaurant on the Pineta which is divine you will then be able to navigate across the bridge and along the marina pathway to the touristy shopping part of the Viareggio - which is also very nice
