We stayed at Sigiriya Village Hotel for two nights and found it to be a great base for climbing Sigiriya Rock, which we did at sunrise—highly recommended! We booked two rooms (one double and one twin), both of which were clean and comfortable, with spacious bathrooms. One of the rooms did have a slight damp smell, but overall the accommodation was pleasant. The main building with the bar and restaurant was very nice, and breakfast was buffet-style with plenty of choice, all well prepared. We didn’t dine at the restaurant in the evening as we wanted to try some of the local eateries within walking distance, but we did enjoy light bites by the pool for lunch, which were very good. The pool was lovely, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. A nice bonus was the free head massage included with each room, which was very relaxing. The only downside was that the outdoor areas felt a little tired and could benefit from some refurbishment. That said, the peaceful setting and proximity to Sigiriya Rock made it a great choice for our visit.

Overall our 5 night stay was ok. The grounds staff were always smiling and offered greetings. When we asked for cold water in our room we received a fridge (which was clearly missing from the room) but the matter was quickly resolved. Monitor lizards and iguanas moved around the grounds as well as monkeys, which was lovely. The pool was really nice, well kept and a nice place to cool down at the end of the day. Someone was always on hand to provide lounger cushions and towels. The only part of the food we liked was having fresh egg hoppers/omelettes made to order.

Location was eye-wateringly stunning looking up at the rock from the pool or the dining area. Accommodation is very private in lodges/cabins dispersed throughout the spectacular unspoiled nature-filled grounds. Service and food choice excellent too.

-Exceptional location, just off the main road with great restaurants nearby and close to key attractions -Lovely pool to enjoy the hot days -Friendly staff (special shoutout to the pool guy — he was so sweet!) -Large property, so the rooms set further back offer privacy and peace -Some entertainment in the evenings, occasionally with live music or a singer
