This is literally my dream apartment – newly renovated and in an old Austrian-Hungarian building, it has that perfect "between the empires" vibe for your Sarajevo stay. It comes equipped with everything you need, the tram station, shopping center and supermarket is directly in front of the house and to the old town it's just a short walk by food.

This is probably the best place I have stayed in many years of travelling. Apart from initially having trouble finding it because the entrance was not what I expected, the apartment has everything up to two couples and several other people staying there would want. You'll find the 81-step old worn semi-circular marble staircase grueling but worth it when you finally walk in. You'll get fit going from the main bedroom to the toilet, it is so big. There's a fully equipped kitchen including a toaster! and tea towels! with snacks and drinks provided, two bedrooms and bathrooms with sliding glass doors. spare towels, a huge lounge/dining area, central and underfloor heating, giant TV, all with lovely décor. It's very central to all the marvellous sights of Sarajevo. Here's how you find it: Out front of the bus/train station, turn left then right, walk south then turn left to Marsala Tita (the name changes to this up ahead) - you'll see the National Museum across the road - stay on the left side walking east. You will pass: bright yellow Hotel Holiday, a green Gastro Market which is amazing to shop at, a huge TV screen on a wall with twin towers behind it, across the road is Swissotel with a massive TV screen, but stay on the left. Then there's a church, Caribou Café, Kralja Tvrtka street, which means the next block is it and building is yours. If you get to Dolina street you have gone past it. On the first corner is a Marcaffe. About halfway along this building at #3 is a nondescript barred metal gate with graffiti on the bottom. That's it! Go in and to the right metal door. The little digital key safe is on the left side. The 81 stairs are on the other side of this door. Many of these neigbourhood buildings feature in a historical movie about the war called 'Welcome to Sarajevo' starring Woody Harrelson.
