We stayed in this gîte during the week of the 80th anniversary of D-Day (June 4th 1944) which gave us access to the north coast which was an hour's drive away. It is in the large grounds of an old château with other buildings around it. Although the address is stated as Saint Pierre sur Dives, it is actually about 14 kilometres from that town in an area called Garnetot. It is amazingly quiet, even by day. At night, all you hear are frogs croaking in ponds in the grounds. For star-gazers, because there is no light pollution, Garnetot is a dream! Parking is plentiful on site and free. Although the building is old, it is completely modern inside, with everything you might need - though the television does have only French channels. (Here's a tip - if you want to watch British TV and have a laptop, pad or phone, install a VPN - so that you can pretend to be in the UK - easy!) It is very clean and comfortable with good kitchen facilities and a super bathroom. It is well centrally heated. The double bed is large and very comfortable with lovely sheets, cushions and pillows. The WiFi is superb. Close by the gîte is a jacuzzi but you need to pay extra for it. Unusually, it is not electrically heated, you light an integral wood furnace - very easy to do, and in two hours it is ready to use. It cools down really slowly so if you use it at night, you can do so again next morning without relighting. And that evening you only need to run the furnace for about half an hour. The water jets and lights are electrically powered. At the time I am writing, there is no extra charge for water and electricity. The proprietors, Jean-Luc and his wife Claire are really friendly, though he doesn't speak much English. I believe Claire is superior in that regard. If you speak some French, he will speak slowly and clearly for you. There are, of course, apps for mobile phones and tablets that will do the talking for you.
