We had to book accommodation very late - 10 weeks in advance - property is limited on Azores - this was the only reasonably=priced place left with ensuite accommodation. It was a bot of a sur[rise when we arrived - i that it is in no way a typical holiday accommodation. Rather it is part of the pastoral; division of the local Diocese of the Church. It is where visiting officials stay throughout the winter, and is hired out to tourists for a few summer months. It is not in a tourist area but only just outside tourist or central zones of capital Ponta Del Gada. The large pineapple plantation is just 150 metres away, and the "C" line of local minibus stops there and takes you into town centre for 50 cents, but stoips around 7pm. Taxis to Centre (which Reception will call for you) cost 7 euros, or 12 euros to the good Populo Beach a little west where there are restaurants, beaches etc. 10 minute walk down hill brings you a couple of shops and restaurants and a further 15 minutes bring you to the centre of the town - inc historic old town and the restarants and tour offices for whale and dolphin watching - Moby Dick Tours is best. Accommodation is spacious with large bathroom. Reception very helpful and will let you use their fridge and microvwave.
