Please note that in order to stay at this hostel, guests need to be a member of the DJH (German Youth Hostel Association) or HI (Hostelling International). Membership cards can be purchased at reception on arrival.Annual membership costs for guests living in Germany are as follows:
EUR 7 for guests up to the age of 26 (from 01 June on EUR 3.50)
EUR 22.50 for families or guests aged 27 and over (from 01 June on EUR 11.25)Membership fees for international guests (place of residence is not Germany):
EUR 3.50 per person/night (max. 6 nights)
alternatively EUR 18.00 for one year.Breakfast is included in the price.Please also note that check-in after 21:30 is not possible.Please inform in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation.
Guests are required to show a photo identification and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply.

We usually stay at higher priced appartments / hotels but tried the Jugendherberge. It’s furniture is of course simple but the location is so awesome that it’s not important if everything else is a bit simpler. The breakfast is better than in some if not most hotels.

Ok, this is a complicated one.... German hostels are the gold standard. It's engrained in the culture, influenced by the Benedictine exhortation to "never ignore the knock of the stranger for it might be the lord" DJH takes that exhortation to heart and you will find a good bed, a relaxing shower and a decent Fruhstuck in a breathtaking setting overlooking "die blaue Donau" The problem is getting there after a day travelling😆 Google Maps will send you on two paths by foot, the first which is partially closed. But if you keep the faith and get checked in, then treat yourself to ein Bier on the terrace of the Oberhausen next door.
