Loved the stay with a group of friends for a snowboarding trip. Located near Madarao ski resort, getting to the slopes was easy. I recommend renting a car like I did to explore the other resorts and get some groceries/food as there's not much available in Madarao itself.

The best thing is the wonderful hosts, Satomi & Bruno, and their family. They are so lovely, make every effort to assist you, and even picked us up/dropped us at the bus stop. They have a lot of knowledge about the mountain and surrounding area. The cabin is really cute, and had all the appliances we needed for our week stay. There was always hot water available. The beds were comfortable. The internet was good - at least 35mbps and capable of handling video calls and streaming. It was a short walk (10-12 mins) uphill to the mountain resort. We had no expectations for Madarao whatsoever, but it turned out to be our favourite mountain having been to Niseko and multiple resorts in Hakuba. The hosts helped us to get discounted lift passes too. There is a very small souvenir shop (F1 market) up the road which contains some basic necessities like bread, eggs, pot noodle, chips etc. But there is no other supermarket, so do a big food shop at Iiyama station supermarket first. A If we return to Nagano, we would absolutely stay here again.

It was a nice cosy cottage. It had all the facilities we needed, including a nice washer and dryer. The bed was especially comfortable. Super nice couple that ran it too.
