Traveller reviews

“We went on a eight-day family vacation and to visit family.”

The house was majestic. Upon entrance it was like stepping into an oasis from the narrow, but cozy streets of Lamu Town. The architecture was stunning and its aesthetics and functionality impressive. As the house is glass and roof free the natural ventilation was a constant fresh and cool breeze in 30 degrees celsius weather. The house help Jamuhuri had the kindest soul. Everything felt safe and it always felt like coming home because he was there. The house was always clean and Jamuhuri was always ready to help with anything we needed. Asante sana!

“Incredibly relaxing, with space to enjoy sunshine and shade!”

We liked the traditional style and especially the small splash pool, to cool off in. The location at the heart of Lamu town was really special.

“Best stay in lamu”

I love the energy of the house especially the pool and the roof top terasse It’s also more quieter then next to the ocean

“A very nice place. If I should ever go back to Lamu I will definately stay here again.”

If you're considering going to the old town of Lamu, this is the place to stay for sure! It has so many "extras", not just the room you book. The house has a lot of different seating areas, and we spent a lot of time at the rooftop terrace just listeing to the sounds of the town and feeling the breeze from the ocean. Since they only rent out 3 rooms, it feels very private, and the host Jamhuri is just the most friendly host who will to anything to make you feel at home (even showed us where to watch the Euros football matches). Hassan Hassan who picked us up at the airport, is also extremely friendly and helped us with a lot of things (like sending money, finding a tailor etc). Through the house, we also arranged for a very nice dhow trip with captain Marocco that is very much recommended (includes superb food!) We were once told that it is better to live in Shela and take daytrips to the old town, but I do not agree. It was great to actually feel the vibe of the old town by staying there and not just visiting. Even walking around at night felt safe, and everyone you meet is extremely friendly.
