The fine print
All guests must be members of the DJH (Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk) or Hostelling International. Membership can be purchased upon arrival at the reception.The membership costs EUR 7 per year for German citizens up to 26 years and EUR 22.50 for families or people from 27 years. From June onwards each year, you can purchase the DJH membership for half the price when you become a member for the first time.International guests must purchase a Hostelling International Card (EUR 18) if they are not a member of a national youth hostel association. For single nights, a welcome stamp can be purchased upon arrival for EUR 3.50.When booking for more than 6 guests, different policies and additional supplements may apply.

Useful low cost modern and clean Yoth Hostel style Hotel. Everythnig was basic, functional and spotlessly clean. No frills, a simple bed, a good shower, two chairs and a small table comprised the rooms - rather like a University Hall of residence room. Breakfast was self-serve, with a good range of cereals, breads, rolls, fruit, meats and cheeses, plus the usual drinks. The whole place was DiY - strip your own beds, clean up after yourself, clear you own table etc. but it worked really well. And the price was very competetive (IMHO) for Heidelberg.
