The staff were so professional, helpful and friendly. It’s a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting, the views are amazing. Our room was lovely and very spacious.

When it says historic it means it - the architecture is a study in itself and a fascinating historical record. The staff are truly excellent and this is Japan where service is regards as an art, skill, and profession Our room in the foresting was huge and delightful, the location is close to the railway and they offer a free pick up drop off service It’s a perfect location in to explore Hakone which has so much good stuff you really need 4 days to explore.

If you ever wanted to stay in a fairy tale castle in Japan, this is the hotel you need to book. We arrived at the station and walked the short distance to the hotel, although a hotel shuttle is possible. The first impression of the building, the staff and the room was phenomenal. All the rooms have baths with volcanic water so each room is a private onsen. Having said that, the main spa/onsen was incredible, with stunning views over the mountains. I strongly recommend taking a walk around the hotel garden as it is beautiful.

Beautiful decor and furnishings in keeping with its history. Our room was large, comfortable and elegant and we were given a personalised tour of the hotel and facilities. Peaceful place, relaxing and staff fabulous. Loved the spa, pool and dining rooms which reflected its glorious history. Quality all the way and 30 min train ride through beautiful landscape to the ropeway starting point which gave views of Mt Fuji. Gardens were lovely. Had apple pie and tea at the same table that John Lennon and Yoko used to enjoy. Loved the quirkiness of this!
