Gemma “Beautiful seclusion”

Ship Cottage is an absolute hidden gem. We were concerned about the lack of access due to the 4x4 needed to get to the cottage, but it was the best part of the holiday! Pwll Du is so beautiful and the seclusion adds to the beauty. It gets a bit busier on sunny weekends but during week days we saw a handful of dog walkers and hikers and had most of the beach to ourselves. The sun was out all week during our stay and we were either in, or on, the water every day. We took our paddle boards and spent hours in and around the beach finding hidden coves and staring into the clear waters looking for wildlife. There were quite a few large barrel jellyfish bobbing about during our visit which were spectacular. Lots of smaller fish, dogfish, wrasse and I even spotted a small comb jelly which are always a pleasure to see. Some other members of our party also spotted a seal whilst out climbing. Plenty of hot water and a lovely fire for warming up after we got out of the sea. Kitchen was well equipped with a small stash of spices, oil and salt & pepper if you forget to bring your own. The Pennard Stores at Southgate were very well equipped too and a 20 min walk towards 3 cliffs. Bishopstone also has a few shops where you can stock up on supplies if you're running low (20 min walk). The small garden is a lovely sun trap in the mornings and the local robins are particularly friendly. Bob, Kath and Sam were amazing hosts, friendly and super helpful during our stay. We packed a ridiculous amount of stuff for 6 people but they managed to fit it into their pick up truck and helped us settle in and depart with ease and kindness. Very much so recommend staying here if you are after a break away from the hustle and bustle and are happy to live without your car for a few days!
