I live locally and only stayed for 1 night to facilitate a friend. I last stayed in the George about 8/9 years ago and I couldn't believe how much it had improved.

The hotel is in the town centre, near the shops and the restaurants,.My room was comfortable and also quiet thanks to a sort of double glazing. The lady who welcomed me on the phone was friendly.

This hotel is really quite quirky. I actually enjoyed staying here despite the claims it may be haunted. Right in the heart of the town centre. Lots of lovely places to eat. The hotel is quite old. Bedroom 7, the walk-in shower was as big as the bedroom. Room outdated but clean and the beds comfortable. 5 mins from the train station. Nice tea and coffee facilities
