I asked Greg to write the review as it was his first visit to Colombia: My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Casa Donato in Barichara, a charming town in Colombia. Located on the second floor of a building, there is a convenient parking space next to the front door which faces away from the street. The house is only a few blocks away from the central plaza and the grocery store. The house was very cozy and spacious, with a lot of natural light and ventilation. The open-air shower in one of the bathrooms made for a unique and refreshing experience to shower under the sky. We also loved the hammock located in the bedroom that has the bunk beds, the mosquito nets, the smart TV, and the large welcome basket of fruit. The available wifi made it possible to work remotely even though we were supposed to be on vacation. Casa Donato has a small kitchen but a full kitchen is available in Casa Transito, located on the first floor of the building. The owner of the house was very friendly, helpful and gave us some tips on what to see and do in Barichara and nearby towns. The price of the house was reasonable and worth the value. Casa Donato is a great base to explore the town and its surroundings. Some of the activities we enjoyed were: - Hiking to Guane, a nearby village, and enjoying the view of the canyon from the Mirador. - Dining at Elvia, a restaurant that serves delicious local cuisine. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, as it is very popular (#5 of Top 10 restaurantes que debería conocer en Colombia - Revista Diners). - Rappelling down the waterfalls at Juan Curi Ecological Park. It was an exhilarating and fun adventure. You can book a guide through Paramo Santander Extremo +57 320 430 0481. If you are looking for a relaxing and authentic stay in Barichara, we highly recommend Casa Donato. I would give Casa Donato a 5-star rating and would love to come back.
